HR 875 terrifies me. Our food supply is already a menace, from mad cow disease to salmonella-contaminated peanuts. Further, existing regulations support agri-business at the expense of small farmers. Not even our water is safe from the waste products of corporate hog farmers. Not even our air is safe from bird flu.
What scares me the most though is the privatization of food by the likes of Monsanto. Where have about a third--in some areas, over 70 percent--of our honey bees gone? We don't know.
The most recent statistics indicate that 1 in 10 Americans need food stamps ... has anyone even thought about what will happen if all the GM-contaminated plants suddenly stop growing, stop producing? The traditional four horsemen--famine, pestilence, war, and death--are only the beginning of the cataclysm that will surely follow.
